About War Invalids and Martyrs' Day
War Invalids and Martyrs' Day, observed in Vietnam on July 27 each year, was first held on July 27, 1947. It is the national day of remembrance for those who died or were wounded in the country's wars of national liberation and defense, and for the families who bore that loss. Across the country, schools, agencies and organizations mark the day by visiting cemeteries and memorial sites and by calling on the families of fallen soldiers.
Vietnamese Heroic Mother is a state honorary title conferred on mothers who lost children in the wars of national liberation and defense, or who made other outstanding sacrifices for the country. Visiting and caring for these Mothers is a long-standing practice of Vietnamese institutions and communities.
